The Neuroscience Disease Area at Novartis is looking for a Research Scientist specializing in histology to perform tissue-based analysis in support of discovery and validation of disease relevant targets and pathways at the San Diego campus primarily focusing on gene therapies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sample receipt, logging and dissection of rodent samples.
  • Perform standard histology procedures including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining and image capture of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues and cell lines.
  • Perform specialized assays such as immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and in situ hybridization.
  • Carry out automated assays on Ventana Discovery Ultra and Bond RX automated platforms.
  • Process chromogenic and fluorescent slides for scanning using Leica AT2 and Akoya Vectra Polaris instruments.
  • Perform image analysis and processing using Indica Labs HALO software.
  • Generate quantitative data using Graph Pad Prism.
  • Record all experiments in electronic laboratory notebook.
  • Participate in study planning with histology scientists and program team lead.

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in biology, molecular biology, or related field. 
  • Demonstrated experience in standard histological techniques.
  • Experience with automated histology specific equipment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of microscopy, image analysis and processing
  • Thorough computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Graph Pad Prism and) is required.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in tissue-based assays including histology, in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence applications and microscopy is desirable.
  • Experience with automated histology specific equipment is desirable.

The salary for this position is expected to range between $60,000 and $112,000 per year.

The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.

Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
